Dinner at Toscano

As I write this blog, we are inching towards completing one year of our marriage anniversary. My wife had ordered clothes for me as a surprise but to her disappointment, the fitting wasn’t that great. With a heavy heart, she returned them back and we went to Forum Mall, Koramangala for shopping. We shopped for clothes and decided to dine at Toscano which is famous for its Italian pizza, as this was her long-awaited checklist.

We settled down at one corner and waited for the menu to check out for options. The ambience is very calm and it feels like Italian restaurant once you enter filled with the aroma of spices & natural herbs. As we sat down, one of the waiters brought flatbread and couple of sauces as starters. At first, I was taken back as we didn’t order but then got assured as this was complimentary from them. I don’t remember which thin crust pizza we had ordered: ‘Rustica’ or ‘Four seasons’. She wanted to try wine for a long time and we decided the time was apt for us to taste (Anniversary occasion). After taking the suggestions from the waiter, we placed a takeaway for one bottle of wine. In the meantime, pizza arrived. The aroma of the pizza was different than what we have in domino’s or pizza hut. It tasted delicious. As we were finishing our pizza, the bottle of wine arrived packed. We were pleased with the service and the food taste. We settled the bill and headed back to our home.

Upon reaching home, Out of curiosity, I checked for the prices & reviews of the wine bottle and found I was cheated by the waiter and the restaurant. They had charged me extra 1500-1800 bucks for the wine bottle. The content which was there earlier vanished and taught me a lesson.

It’s been more than a month now working for GE Digital and it has been a mixed bag experience. The positive and the best thing happened to me here is meeting few bunch of crazy, fun-filled, easy-going friends. I’m an introvert and had a setback on how would I make friends being new in the company, would I be comfortable? etc. but everything faded in couple of days. Our’s is a group of 6 people which includes Venu, Kamal, Swati, Unni Krishnan, Navin and myself. One thing which is diverse in our group is that all of them belong to different states yet have a very good understanding among ourselves .

A small introduction about my friends. Let me start with VENUPRAKASH, from Telangana, has macho body and tells “Baigaan” often. Next comes, KAMAL, he is from Indore who is dirty at mind but clean from heart. Anything you say to him, it gets converted into adult talk, such are his thoughts😀. In comes SWATI,  who laughs more than smiling budha. She is very jolly in nature and works as security.  I meant security engineer 😉.  UNNI KRISHNAN is Business Analyst  by profession but financial advisor for us. Last but not least,  NAVIN is chilled out guy ready to get hitched (no offense bro😊).

We have been planning for a day out but I played spoil sport there to which I was given proper smack.  This time,  they planned for a dinner and I had no say in it and rather imposed with a condition,  to tag along my wife for diner. After lots of discussion, we decided to dine at PUNJABI Grill, Koramangala and book the table at 8.30 pm. As usual we reached the Rendezvous 15mins late but friends being friends came an hour late. I had ordered in the time span they arrived and the laughter started. These guys brought a bouquet for us,  which was so thoughtful and nice of them.

We ordered our food and the laughter time started which seems never ending. By the time we checked our watch it was 11.40 pm.  We came out of the restaurant and took few clicks and parted our ways. It was refreshing to have dinner with them after such a boring week of training (which was hardly of any use). Many of people who saw us that we know each other’s from long time but the fact was it was merely a month that we friends met and got jelled easily. One quote which I happen to read earlier by  some poet/author which says something like this into this situation is:

The great thing about new friends is that they bring new energy to your soul

Volleyball Championship – 2015

Many months passed and no games/tournament was held in the office. People constantly kept me asking when and what is the next tournament being conducted (as I’m part of Employee-Club). Many people suggested different sports such as Football, Badminton, Volleyball, cricket and many more. After checking and taking feedback, we decided to opt for volleyball. Software AG Bangalore never organised an volleyball tournament prior to it. As the first mail was sent to all the employees, most of them were thrilled to hear about it. After checking with the Tech park people, we were informed that there is a volleyball court behind one of the buildings which we weren’t aware of. Ravi (Facilty director of Software AG) did take permission to use the court and we started using the court every day.

At first, only handful of people joined (friends of mine) but as the days passed by, people starting coming by and showing interest in it. We used to go around 5 PM in the evening and come back at 6 – 6.30 PM. Seeing us play, many other companies joined the line. As the survey was sent to register the teams, we decided the team for us. Players included in our team were Ajoy, Sachin, Meer, Prajwal, Nabin and Me (being the captain). Everyone was good at it except me. In fact, we had a very good player in our team who played in state level (that’s what I was told). Coming to me, I would say I suck at playing volleyball, big time. I’m not such a good player of volleyball but managed it somehow.

The date for the tournament kept postponing due to interviews/walk-ins being scheduled every weekend, HQ visitors, Project completion, Technology session etc. which resulted in people losing their interest in the tournament. So, we had a meeting and date was finalised for the tournament after taking conformation from all the 8 enrolled teams, the venue and date was decided. It was at Ekam sports academy on 4-April, 2014.  There were 8 teams running for the title out of which only 6 teams turned up on the match day (other two teams didn’t turn up due to walk-in’s). Out of 6 teams, we have 3 winners and one lucky loser who would play in semi-final. The winners of the semi’s would play for the title and become the first ever Volleyball champions of Software AG. I was pretty confident that if we played well, we could atleast make it to top 2 and we did accomplish that by some smart play (not by me). We had reach finals to play against ”. Both the teams had good players and bad players. Final round was best of 3 sets, which could give fair and equal chance of showcasing the skill and winning the title. We thought we would have tough fight for the finals but it was a straight 2 set win which made us the first ever VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONS of Software AG.

From the prize money received, we planned to go for lunch. Two months later, the plan was put into action.  After going through so many options from zomato, we clinched to “Black Pearl” @ Kormangala on 10-July, 2014.  The restaurant theme was Pirates (from Pirates of Caribbean). It was such a fun time where we wore pirate caps and posed for the pic (below). I still remember one moment, Sachin’s desire to eat rabbit which I fulfilled forcefully :).
